The Winnebago and Hancock County Emergency Management Agency is offering a Midland NOAA Weather Radio receivers for sale. These units are available in stores for around $40 and are being offered through a grant from the Hanson Foundation for $27. The radios can be easily programmed by the user or they can be programmed at the time of sale. Cash and checks are the means of payment accepted.
These receivers come equipped with S.A.M.E. technology (Specific Area Message Encoding) that allows the user to decide the counties they would like to receive alerts for as well as the types of alerts they receive (i.e. blizzard, child abduction, etc.)
Households with limited income are encouraged to apply for a free or reduced price. That application can either be printed here or picked up in either of the offices.
