Jail Division
Hancock County has a fully functional State certified jail, however, since 2018 all inmates have been housed at the Winnebago County jail in Forest City. Inmates are held in Hancock County on a temporary basis for events such as court appearances. The current Jail Administrator is Kevin Knebel. The Jail Administrator is responsible for all inmate records, courtroom security, transports and assuring the jail meets standards. The jail administrator also assists in Sex Offender registry, weapon permits, dispatch and civil.

Applicant Fingerprinting
Applicant print cards can be done anytime between 7 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (except for holidays). We ask that you call and make an appointment at (641) 923-2621.
Cost of applicant prints is $10 per person. Please bring a personal check or cash in exact amount.
Court Ordered Fingerprinting
If you have received a court order to be fingerprinted for a criminal charge you can come to the Sheriff’s Office Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (excluding holidays) to get these done.
They can be done after hours or on weekends by appointment only.
